  Standard ISO format is YYYY-mm-dd. Exactly because we're living in Europe and not in the US, I'd prefer that we stick to international standards instead of using old national habits... :-)

  as a programmer, I find YYYY-mm-dd specially useful for sorting

  and as a french man, our dates are in dd/mm/YYYY

  could be a customisation option
